When Lord Ickenham fires a catapult with unerring aim, he causes Sir Raymond Bastable to write a novel so outspoken that he cannot put his name to it. With an impoverished nephew, Cosmo Wisdom, to pose as author, Sir Raymond thinks he can avoid scandal. But Cosmo owes money to an unsavoury character.
Add measures of Lord Ickenham's godson Johnny Pearce (whose wedding is off due to bad case of Nannie Bruce), a butler in love with his employer, an amorous policeman and a dash of Sir Raymond's old flame. Stir well and serve.
