A Damsel in Distress
A novel
Lord Marshmorton wants to tend his gardens in peace and avoid his secretary, Alice. His sister wants her step-son Reggie to marry Lord M's niece Maud, but Maud is after Geoffrey Raymond, thought by the family to be unsuitable, and Reggie worships Alice. When damsel Maud goes to London to see Geoffrey, she is rescued from distress by composer George Bevan who falls in love with her.Interventions by the butler, Lord Belpher and a curate make the paths to true love as twisted as the country lanes around the castle.

Film
Produced by RKO in 1937 and directed by George Stevens, the film credits Wodehouse, Ernest Pagano and S. K. Lauren as writers. It starred Fred Astaire, George Burns, Gracie Allen, Joan Fontaine and Reginald Gardiner - quite a cast! Black and white, 101 minutes - it's available on video.

Classic Wodehouse from the opening description to the final resolution, with a few surprises on the way. If you enjoy the Blandings Castle books, you'll want to get hold of this one.
