Sacked by Lord Tilbury, the intended publisher of Galahad's Reminiscences, Monty Bodkin gets the job of secretary to Clarence, Lord Emsworth. When Lord E discovers that Monty is the nephew of rival pig-owner Sir Gregory Parsloe, he suspects dirty work is afoot and makes Monty unwelcome. Sue Brown, once engaged to Monty, is also unhappy at his arrival as she fears her fiancé, Ronnie, will find out and become jealous.
A direct sequel to the events in Summer Lightning.
