Freddie persuades romantic novelist Leila Yorke that Valley Fields is a suitably squalid setting for the 'stark realism' novel she wants to write in order to get her secretary, and Freddie's ex-girlfriend, Sally living next door. On discovering what a delightful place the suburb really is, Leila is surprisingly tolerant. Until the plagues of cats, dogs and unwanted visitors, that is.
