Speaking personally, and unlike
Performing Flea edited by Townend, this volume gives me the uncomfortable feeling of intruding too far into the author's privacy, particularly the letters to his step-daughter Leonora. This might be due to the fawning language, e.g. 'Dearest precious angel Snorklet', but more because the letters were clearly never intended for public consumption
and PG did not have the opportunity to vet them.
Frances Donaldson was at school with Leonora, became a family friend and was also PG's 'official' biographer.
