Albert Memorial

Description
A photo of the main body of the memorial before its recent restoration. This is how it would have appeared to the characters in the listed book and stories. The statue of Albert is now magnificent in gold leaf and the stonework has been cleaned. Worth a detour on a sunny day at any time of year.
For the technically minded, it stands at 176ft and was opened in 1872. The colour of the statue in the photo is said to be black paint applied in the 1910s to conceal the ravages of air pollution on the original gold.
