The sight of Reginald Rankin is too much for J. R. Leather-Twigg (known as Shoeblossom), who decides to rag him. Considering Reginald's strong desire for revenge on anyone who wrongs him, this is not a good idea. But neither is rowing a boat out of bounds.

- apparently some form of warming embrocation or liniment, in favour at the time of this story. It was used as a 'counter-irritant'.
