Also produced in London at the Winter Garden Theatre from 10 September 1921.

It was made into a film, first in 1925 then in 1929, the latter with the original Broadway lead, Marilyn Miller. The original show was produced by Florenz Ziegfeld to promote his new star Marilyn.

Synopsis

Sally works as a dishwasher at the Alley Inn in Greenwich Village. There she is invited to a ball, by a waiter who is an exiled Duke, where she is mistaken for a ballerina and subsequently joins the Ziegfeld Follies. She still manages to marry the hero.

* As with so many musicals involving PG it is not clear who wrote what, with 'authorities' putting forward different combinations of songs. The only one they seem to agree on here is The Church 'Round the Corner borrowed from the earlier See You Later and even that is also listed as The Church Around the Corner.

I have found one reference to a concert revival that suggests the original book might be 'lost', the concert performance being based on the 1929 film version and getting slated as being a poor plot: it does look pretty ripe. Even more intriguing is the suggestion by The Guide to Musical Theatre web site that the original was based on a libretto by PG for an unpublished musical called The Little Thing.
