Soapy Molloy
Thomas G. Molloy, also known as Thomas G. Gunn, a seller of fake oil stock with the gift of the gab. A fine, open-faced man, he is sensitive about the age difference between himself and his wife (he is 42 at the time of first appearance) and worried about losing his hair.

History

Soapy was once friends with Edward Finglass, a bank robber, who sent him half of the information needed to find the loot from his last robbery. The other half was sent to Finglass's friend, but Soapy's rival, Chimp Twist. Dolly and Soapy entered into partnership with Twist but went their own way when it became clear that Chimp was double-crossing them. (Sam the Sudden)

They faked a burglary at Rudge Hall, in conspiracy with the owner Lester Carmody and Chimp, to get valuables they said they would buy from Lester. Naturally, they planned to double-cross Lester and Chimp to keep the goods while avoiding being cheated themselves. Dolly had to make use of her supply of Mickey Finns ... (Money for Nothing)

They enrolled at Mrs Cork's 'colony' at Shipley Hall, ostensibly to learn the healthy living methods she was teaching. While there, Soapy tried to sell dud shares to Mrs Cork and they became embroiled with Chimp to find and then steal Lord Uffenham's diamonds. The usual double crossing ensued, with added gunplay. (Money in the Bank)

They leased Castlewood in Valley Fields, but after selling some of his dud shares to neighbour Freddie Widgeon, Soapy moved out while Dolly was serving time for shoplifting. When she came out she told him that she had stolen Mrs Prosser's jewellery and hidden it in Castlewood. First Soapy, then Dolly tried to get into the house but were prevented by the new occupant and one of her visitors. (Ice in the Bedroom)

They met up with Ivor Llewellyn in Cannes and were invited to stay at Mellingham Hall. They were unhappy to find Chimp Twist present and rejected his suggestion of a syndicate to get Mrs Llewellyn's pearl necklace. They made a play for the pearls by pretending there was a burglary in progress, but were foiled. Soapy had to leave, leaving Dolly to try on her own. (Pearls, Girls and Monty Bodkin)

Note: at one point, Soapy mentions that the shares he sells are real but completely worthless. Later he says there may be a Silver River oil well somewhere, implying that he doesn't know if they're real or not. In Ice in the Bedroom, Leila Yorke says she's looked into them and found there is a mine in Arizona. Whatever Soapy says or knows, he's a crook!
