The Oldest Member

A bachelor, he no longer plays golf but is content to watch others from the clubhouse, referee matches and tell stories of golfers he has known. Indeed, he is a persistent and assertive raconteur. His popularity is assured by his willingness to give advice to all, including those who ask.

He has a poor view of other sports, notably tennis, croquet and bowls.

Coming down (graduating) from Cambridge, he secured a job as private and confidential secretary to Vincent Jopp, an American businessman, later a multi-millionaire.

He is a member of the Baptist Church.*
